The «Haus zum grossen Keller», built in 1290 as a warehouse, is located in the old town of Basel and was rebuilt and renovated in cooperation with the monument preservation authorities. The construction program included a pollutant remediation, the upgrading to earthquake safety, a complete renewal of the sanitary and electrical installations and the installation of 42 apartments. The wet cells were installed as free-standing cubes in order to protect the listed building fabric. The newly created common areas include a courtyard, a kitchen with dining area, and a basement with lockers and laundry facilities.
